Banica Mission Documentary

Dominican Republic
In February of 2010, four friends came together to make a documentary for the Diocese of Arlington‘s mission in Banica, Dominican Republic. The goal of the documentary was to inform, inspire, and hopefully lead others to volunteer their time and talents for the good of others.

I had the privilege of being part of this team. The following articles detail my 10 day mission trip to Banica. The documentary is still being edited with an estimated completion date of Christmas 2010. More on that to come!

  1. Day 1 – I’m in DC and I’m headed to the airport on two hours sleep. It’s freezing cold and we’ve had the worst snow ever..
  2. Day 2 – I’m up at 5 am for the ride to a neighboring (“loma” or “hill”) community in the countryside. That’s 5 hours of sleep in two days..
  3. Day 3 – We’re up at 6 a.m. This is the second day I’ve slept from about 1:30 a.m. till 6 a.m. Given the…
  4. Day 4 – It’s time to film the motorcycle chase scene. I’m thinking the documentary needs to have a 15 minute opening action sequence…
  5. Day 5 – If only I had known the insane drumming I was going to witness that evening…
  6. Day 6 – We get a tour of the School and learn about dancing…
  7. Day 7 – Today we check on a project, visit the market and eat lunch with the Bishop.
  8. Day 8 – Today we head to the river that forms the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
  9. Day 9 – Today we meet Fr. Murphy coming out of the mountains…

    Enjoyed hearing the stories from the DR–these people put us to shame with all our excess….
